Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Photography has become an essential tool in promoting tourism by visually capturing and showcasing the unique attractions, culture, and natural beauty of destinations. In Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, photography plays a pivotal role in highlighting the area's rich cultural heritage, scenic landscapes, and historical landmarks. Visual storytelling through photography not only attracts tourists but also fosters local pride and cultural preservation. Studies by Ahmed and Bello (2023) emphasize the power of photography in creating compelling narratives that drive tourism growth by influencing travelers' perceptions and decisions. However, despite the potential of photography to enhance tourism in Wase, its utilization remains limited due to challenges such as inadequate marketing strategies, lack of professional photographers, and insufficient digital platforms for sharing images. This study explores the impact of photography on tourism promotion in Wase, examining its contributions, challenges, and opportunities for growth.
